European Investment Bank plans to lend £100m to UK SMEs

The plight of many SMEs in their attempt to raise capital is a global one. But SMEs in Europe have just been handed a lifeline as the European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed its increasing support to small businesses across the EU, which is no small announcement after it lended €77 billion in 2014. One particular beneficiary is the UK based Funding Circle - the EIB is planning to disseminate €100 million to small businesses through the online lender, hinting that the peer-to-peer lending space is continuing to gain traction.

Again, P2P lending has arisen as a vehicle for alternative finance to SMEs, an opportunity that has been recognized by the EIB.
