Monexo @ Tech In Asia

10 July, 2015

The typhoon that wasn’t, and the one that was.

Leg four of nine of the Tech In Asia tour, initially scheduled for Thursday, was delayed by a typhoon that wasn’t, ergo, mild drizzling. What was to follow the day after, on the Friday, was nothing short of a typhoon, as five startups, Monexo included, went head-to-head in a battle to secure participation at the Tech In Asia 2015 Tokyo Meet; an honor which also came with an all-expenses paid trip to Tokyo.

Held at the CoCoon co-working space, attendees included fellow startup founders, onlookers, aspiring entrepreneurs, and investment directors (also judges) from CoCoon, ACE & Company, and Brinc.

Prior to pitching, the audience engaged in a fireside chat with the judges, discussing the startup climate in Hong Kong, the keys to success  as a startup, and the distinct differences between Silicon Valley and Hong Kong’s startup scene.

The five startups then pitched the audience and the judges, with Monexo being represented by co-founder, and CEO Mukesh Bubna. The competition was fierce, and it was one of the few times that each of the startups were involved in completely different industries – namely, content management, health care, second hand selling, P2P lending, and a smartphone case customizer.

Although Monexo was not selected to take part in Tech In Asia Tokyo, the team gained invaluable knowledge and feedback from the judges, each of whom reacted with great intrigue and optimism about Monexo taking the Hong Kong financial scene by storm.
